Red-winged Blackbird

Today I will show you my first attempt at a bird shot. Buddy and I spotted this fellow on our stroll. We thought it would be a great idea to click a picture of him. As we got closer to the tree we began to whisper in hope that he would remain on his perch. I readied the camera for the shoot. He was not intimidated. I clicked twice. Wow! There was a sense of achievement. But when I downloaded it on iphoto I realized that I needed more zoom!! Maybe a better quality camera would help? But then maybe it's the camera person that needs to learn how to take pictures? Yet best part of this experience is that I had captured a picture of a bird that I actually recognized, a red-winged blackbird.  How? During my years in Girl Guides for a badge I did a bird project. Then I reused the work for my school science fair project  Kleinste Motte.

  2. Hi there, I came by way of Judy's silly photo challenge. You got a good capture of the red winged blackbird!! I have many birds on my blog, but have not been able to get a red winged yet, you will get much better with practice. I see you are a new blogger, and I have been looking at quite a few of your posts, good job, and nice blog!! We seniors do need to keep up with technology, don't we? I also see you've just tried a Wii for the first time? So have we! The golf is hard, bowling is the most fun. We went to our friend's house to play with them, don't know if I will buy one. Your cathedral reflection is lovely!! I am sorry to hear about your health problems. I am a deacon in our church and run our 24 hour a day prayer line, so I will be praying for you, I've seen miraculous results. I find it so calming to know that others are for sure praying for me. What does the name of your blog represent and what is Kleinste Motte? My husband works at a large rehab center, and we are very familiar with Downs Syndrome, you are so blessed to have buddy!!

  3. Oh, I forgot to mention that we have some things in common. In looking at your profile, I see you like Enya and Leonard Cohen. We have lots of their C.D.'s and love them both. We recently bought a Cohen video of one of his concerts. Did you know he used to be a monk? Did you mention the Beatles on your profile? I went to see them way back in pre-historic times when I was a teenager.

  4. A terrific post and capture here!! Perfect image. I don't have a super zoom but I just try to be sneaky. Looks like a type of fruit treat though I don't see anything on it.
    Have a wonderful day,
    Regina-

  5. Hi There, I love your picture.... You have that gorgeous blue sky in the distance... AND the lamppost added to the picture also. SO---it may be a far-away picture of your blackbird---but look at the entire picture... It's WONDERFUL.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. Thanks for the thumbs up. To me this seems so amateur compared to what I've seen on other posts. But when you point me in a different direction I can see what you mean so thanks. The bird's on a maple sapling that's struggling to survive.

  7. Wow, I think you did a great job capturing the bird's photo. I have found I sometimes just have to repeat several shots til I get one I like. This spring I took a photo of the red-winged blackbird, my first ever. Keep up on the great work.

  8. The Red-winged Blackbird is beautiful with the blue sky as the background.

I spent quite a bit of time this afternoon stalking a Red-winged Blackbird. Each time I got close he flew a little further away. It take practice with the birds but you have a great start.

Thanks for linking up on the challenge today. I look forward to seeing more of your photos.

  11. I have always loved red winged blackbirds. I can imitate their call, so have gotten them to flit quite closely at times.

This is a great picture--you can see the red on his wings beautifully.
